Sarah S. is trying to find a style that would give her Midwest kitchen European country-cottage charm. Sarah has fond memories of her grandma's home (that was decorated with roosters, apples and sunflowers) and wants that same nostalgic kitchen to greet her after a busy day at work. This makeover begins by creatively painting, de-cluttering the space, and updating the floors and wall coverings. I have selected four Dutch Boy colors that will turn Sarah's kitchen from worn to warm. Sarah's mention of her grandmother's sunflowers was the incentive for painting the cupboards a base color of Yellowtail Dam (C7-3). Lightly doing a rustic dry brushing on Primitive White (DW26) will give the worn wood cupboards a fresh cottage feeling. All the cupboard doors and drawers get heavy bronzed iron handles and pulls to enhance that old world style. I love the look of a farmhouse sink; painting the sink cabinet Sleepy Hollow (D6-2) will give the kitchen a splash of mossy green while allowing the cabinet with new iron bronzed hardware to seem like its own piece of furniture. Also, replacing the faucet with bronzed iron fixture will help bring in the old world European Country look. Removing the cabinet door on the upper corner cupboard and painting the inside of the cabinet Crimson Sky (A26-1) will allow for the sleepy corner cabinet to get a custom country kitchen feel; now this old, tired cabinet wakes up and displays items and cookbooks. This deep red is carried to the bottom lazy susan cupboard - painting the inside of the cupboard the same Primitive White (DW26) that was dry brushed on the top coat of the cupboards will tie paint colors together. Also, the fresh off-white color provide a light will make it easier to see food and spices that are on the lazy susan. Replacing counter tops with butcher block is another major step in achieving the cottage-like feel. Wrapping the upper area above the cabinet with sunflower wall covering brings height to the kitchen and hanging a one-piece deep red and mossy green valance over the window adds some weight to absorb sound and soften the look. A window shelf with decorative molding is mounted between both cupboards for display or plants. Sarah's beloved roosters even make an appearance on the backsplash through the border! The plain door that leads outside now has rustic knotted cedar attached and is coated with the same Primitive White (DW26). This plain door now has been transformed to an old-fashioned cottage door. Replacing the outdated linoleum floor with new ceramic flooring that is set in a brick style pattern with deep red grout pulls the room together. Finally, the long counter is draped with black cloth to hide kitchen clutter to achieve that organized, clean feel. Purchasing two bar height farm-style chairs allows for Sarah to kick off her shoes at the end of her busy day and enjoy dinner in her newly updated European Country-Cottage kitchen. Where to get Dutch Boy® Paint

It appears the wonderful new design has plenty of storage to de-clutter that messy kitchen. I'd also include an in-cabinet trash can holder. I know I love mine.
I love how the colors were repeated throughout the kitchen. Also, the layered combination of patterns (the floral, checks, and roosters) make a design I just adore.
I think too many colors in here, but I like the sunflowers!
This yellow is just right!
The themed kitchen is gorgeous and every design detail has been thoughtfully chosen by the designer. Gorgeous, and if I had a cabin in the AZ mountains, I'd consider following his design process. Great write up!
I love it. Although, sorry the picture didn't clearly state what's all in the kitchen. The 'counter' on the left is actually a kitchen table. The oven is actually one oven with drawers underneath and the sink is a double sink. I love the colors!
