Olivia from Wales, WI is a teen in need if a major bedroom makeover! The bedroom bones are great because she has a pretty big space to work with, and a HUGE walk-in closet that even has a door that leads to her roof. Since Olivia requested a modern/retro space, I am suggesting to clean everything up a bit by painting the walls in “Eco-Gray” DW36 and painting all of the doors and woodwork in white - that is, if her parents allow it! My absolute favorite part of the space is the retro bird and flower decals that match the dandelion ceiling light. I picked birds and flowers for a theme because I noticed her cute pictures hung on the wall by the shelf in the photo she submitted. Taking the place of that shelf you will notice what looks like a sign hanging from the tree decal, but the sign is actually a painted rectangle in chalkboard paint. Having the chalkboard on the wall right by her new desk will make it easy for Olivia to write down her homework assignments, activity dates, or even draw funny pictures! The blinds on the windows will work just great behind her new blue-beaded curtains that hang from her valance (which is upholstered in the same material as her pillow). Since blue is her favorite color, what would be better than a blue comforter to rest on her sleek white bed! As you can see, the nightstands mount to either side of the headboard for a clean look that comes with open shelving for easy access to books, music, etc. Although it’s not shown in my rendering, I am suggesting to just simply clean up the walk-in closet by folding and/or hanging her clothes on the shelves that are already in there. To hide some of the miscellaneous items that may make the closet appear messy, I would purchase some square canvas bins and put them on one of your shelves. I hope that this design will inspire Olivia to transform her room into the modern space that she desires! -ALISON DEMICHELE
