The homeowner is looking for a traditional and more functional room for her family. I would suggest Autumn Spirit, C6-3 for the wall color. I think this will complement the rug that she wants to keep nicely. I am suggesting a creamy white trim Porcelain Sink, C7-4 for the baseboards and new fireplace surround (if it’s in the budget to get rid of the stone) and on the beams on the ceiling. I am suggesting patterned wallpaper on the ceiling to bring visual interest and to give the ceiling a more uniform look. I would suggest moving the desk in front of the windows. For the desk I would choose a glass top and chrome legs, to let light in and give the effect of floating in the room. I am suggesting darker wood tones for the television center and for the end tables and coffee tables, this brings in a more traditional look, and works with the new, glass-topped desk to create harmonious mixture of traditional and modern, which to me says sophisticated. I would create a game area in the former “office” area, this will give the family extra seating and a place to play games, work on projects or use a laptop if the desk in use. I think the colors on the wall and the ceiling would look great and create a sophisticated modern traditional look. I would accent the room with red chairs to pick up the red in the rug, and to give the room a punch of color. I think the color of the walls and trim will act as a nice neutral for the red to really pop against and inject some color and interest into the room. This will be a family-friendly room, where they can work at the desk, watch television or sit down and play a game at the game table, and enjoy the space. -MATT ROYER
